Sergi Padilla, Ikerbasque researcher at Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Biocruces Bizkaia has published an article in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in which the molecular mechanism of the fusion of the HIV and the host cell surface is described.
This process is very important, as it can help to establish new action therapies to inhibit HIV infection processes targeting on the host cell rather than on the virus. Likewise, this work has demonstrated the action of b12, a neutralizing antibody that inhibits these fusion processes.
