At the end of 2017, Ikerbasque was comprised of a total of 149 Research Professors with extensive research and leadership capacity, 62 Research Fellows with whom it is intended to promote a pool of young high-level researchers and 10 Research Associates, a category that complements the previous two and that seeks to cover the different stages of the research career. Their research work had a remarkable outcome; Throughout the year, they took part in a total of 1,060 indexed publications, exceeding for the first time the barrier of 1,000 annual publications.
The total amount of funds obtained by the Ikerbasque researchers during 2017 amounted to 26,318,166 euros (1.5 million more than in 2016). Since 2007 they have managed to bring a total of 150 million euros to the Basque Country. Out of a total of 429 projects (24 projects more than the previous year) that had external financing, nine had funding from the ERC (European Research Council), the most prestigious institution in Europe in terms of promotion of ambitious research projects at the frontiers of knowledge. At the end of last year, 804 people worked in the groups led by these researchers.
